It took me a week to finish reading this book. It starts off fast paced and incredibly funny. The world building is excellent. There is a strong sense of adventure and joy in being taken on a ride. The first third of the book is nothing but the awesomeness advertised on the Marquee. Then I started to notice how much I disliked the characters. Major Girth was not too awful, but Horace Thornton and Wilhemina Wigglebottom left me feeling unclean. I know that the authors intended them to be anti-heroes, but they were so dislikable that it made reading about their antics unpleasant. Once they came on the scene, the speed of my reading went to a crawl because I did not want to be spending time with these characters. The stories are solid. The illustrations are brilliant. The world is delightful. The turns of phrase and use of language is excellent. This book delivers what the blurb on the back says it does. "Enjoy thrilling tales of airship battles, moster hunters, hired assasins and colonial conquests all told by characters you would never, ever intive to tea!" The ingredients list is exactly what it says it is.

A great first novel from 2 talented writers. Favorite stories include "Eagle for a Son", "Five Sisters", and the Horace P. Thornton stories. Can't wait for Volume 2! READ IT.
Very creative and some of the most hilarious stuff I ever read! Lots of parts will really give you a good chuckle. There's some pretty brutal stuff too.
I enjoyed the book. I enjoy steampunk and these stories and the people who contributed to them are entertaining.
I look forward to seeing whats to come.
I really liked these stories. I thought the writing styles of the two authors meshed nicely. I was reminded of early Heinlein at times, not only the emphasis on action, but also the insistence that you earned citizenship by serving your country - in the military. The stories are by turns clever, intriguing, and humorous. The world building was excellent, the use of Steampunk tropes right on target, and it was nice to see familiar characters showing up for repeat performances. The title is a little campy, but that fits right in with the overall feel of these stories. All in all, a really fun Steampunk read in a fresh new Steampunk voice!
Great fun bathroom reading. The first few stories establish the premise and introduces a few characters and most of the subsequent stories build on them. Some stories were a little clumsy but most were highly entertaining. Some rather interesting characters, both likeable and some really not so likeable. Nothing to put down the Dostoevsky for, but an entertaining diversion. Nice illustrations that really help to display the streaming aspects of the story.
Brian Thomas has a way of writing that takes you there with color and feeling. He pours his heart and soul into this book with enough humor and history to keep anyone interested.
I am quite late with my review. It's only because I am on my third reading of this book. YES. It's that good.
